Last night Eqal upgraded their Umbrella Software. Early today we began to hear reports of errors in the LG15: Outbreak lay out. Now it appears that the problems are a bit more extensive and vary from browser to browser as can be seen with LGPedia with the Firefox browser: http://www.lg15.com/lgpedia/index.php?title=Crystal
What have you observed? What problems are you having? Leave a description of the problem in a comment, a link to the page with the problem and possibly a screen shot of the problem. We are sure that the gnomes of Eqal will be only too happy to have the feedback.

Yes, there are a couple very minor CSS issues on LG15 and some other sites. On LG15 the backgrounds of each of the show pages are displaying the homepage header image file which they shouldn't be doing. We'll fix this and the other CSS issues on Monday.
The LGPedia issue has nothing to do with the Umbrella upgrade and has been there for awhile. I think it's only in Firefox, but let me know if it's also in IE (it's fine in Chrome). It's something we need to get to, but unfortunately we haven't had time and since it doesn't affect functionality of the LGPedia it keeps getting bumped. We'll get to it eventually.
If anyone notices any problems with sites, feel free to email us at [email protected].

Late last night, Ryan Copple and Kaleena Kiff, the producers of Riese, announced that due to an agreement with Fireworks, the UK based digital distribution arm of ContentFilms, all current episodes of the series were being pulled from the Internet while Fireworks negotiates various deals on behalf of the series. One question which remained from the announcement was how this decision would impact the release of future episodes. Today I had the opportunity to talk to Ryan Copple who confirmed that for the time being the release of new episodes is on hold.
Clearly, this was not an easy decision for the producers to make. In the end, according to Ryan, it came down to a question of sustainability. Riese is a very expensive, independently financed show. The producers decided that fans would rather see a completed story with a, hopefully, short hiatus rather than an incomplete one. In order to ensure that they would be able to complete the story they needed to secure additional financing. The last thing an audience wants is to watch three-fourths of a compelling story.
As one online commentator stated, “…this kind of shoots the series in the foot here, stranding the core online fan community that helped garner the series its early support.” Nevertheless, so far fan reaction has been largely supportive, even if the announcement’s timing could not have been worse. Riese had recently started its second chapter, a chapter which promised a significant progression in the story and boasts several high profile cast additions. Riese is not the first web series to take an extended production break. Hopefully, the hiatus will be short and the producers will garner the necessary funding needed to complete the series.

From insideLG15
We’re pushing out a big upgrade to all EQAL sites starting Friday night. The sites will all be taken down and may be intermittently available over the course of the weekend. Ideally everything will go smoothly and we’ll only take the sites down for a short time, but if there are problems we’ll be working through the weekend to fix them.
We’re very excited about these upgrades. We’re pushing out a major update to Umbrella, so if you’re a beta tester you’re going to see a brand new management UI and a ton of new features. For users of EQAL sites, this upgrade is going to make it much easier for us to add new features. You’re going to see a lot of cool new stuff over the next few months.
Thanks for your understanding… and hope you are enjoying Outbreak!

On this weeks episode of The Web.Files host Kristyn Burtt interviews Sandeep Parikh and Tony Janning from The Legend of Neil. This was another excellent and informative interview by Kristyn Burtt; however, I was constantly distracted by the bowl of oranges on Sandeep’s coffee table. In a single guy’s apartment that looks like the before picture on a home decorating show, an artfully arranged bowl of fruit brought a certain je ne sais quoi that stood out against the décor of piled T-shirts and bare walls.
The Legend of Neil is a show familiar to most web series viewers. A parody of the classic Nintendo game, The Legend of Zelda, the show centers on Neil, an oafish slacker, who was either magically transported into a video game world through autoerotic asphyxiation, or is having the world’s greatest drunk dream. The second season, which recently wrapped, featured the fan favorite musical episode with special guest star Felicia Day, as the world’s randiest demi-fey. The third season is scheduled to begin filming later this year.

How much are your random thoughts on Twitter worth? Well, if you are Kim Kardashian, the answer is ten grand. Earlier this week, Advertising Age reported that the zaftig star commanded the staggering amount for daily sponsored tweets on her twitter feed, which is seen by approximately two and a half million followers. Kardashian is not alone in that many celebrities as-well-as major Twitter stars are starting to turn their social media currency into cold hard cash.
Kardashian’s $10,000 dollar tweet figure is based on the rate paid by Ad.ly, an advertising service that sends out daily sponsored tweets. The way the system works, advertisers on the site chose which Twitter users they wish to pitch their advertisement and submit bids. Users then decide to either approve or deny the bid. If the bid is accepted, the ad messages appear automatically in the user’s Twitter feed, usually four times over the course of a week. The amount paid to the user depends on several factors including the number of and type of followers. For instance, a user with 10,000 loyal followers can command a higher rate than one with 100,000 spambot accounts. Also, users have the option of setting their own rate if they disagree with the one suggested by Ad.ly.
Ad.ly’s website list its top users, which in addition to Kardashian include Dr. Drew, Greg Grunberg, and Newsweek. Several of the top celebrity users actually donate their proceeds to charity, an option which the company automates based on user preferences. Furthermore, all tweets from the company carry a “from Ad.ly Network” tag to clearly identify them as a sponsored tweet. An active user with a substantial or loyal follower base could make serious money for very little work. Based on the $10,000 dollar a tweet price, Kardashian could bank an estimated $3.5 million dollars a year from Twitter ads alone. However, unless one has at least 5000 followers do not bother signing up for the site. Out of curiosity I signed up only to discover that my tweets are worth nothing, which I must admit, I already knew.
Nevertheless, anyone can sign up for Ad.ly or one of the similar services, which are popping up now. The advertising deals that these sites create are not limited to established stars, but are open to anyone who has a substantial Twitter following. In this instance, new media personalities are on an equal footing with the established celebrities and, in fact, have the home field advantage. Imagine the possibility of partially funding a webseries simply by having fans follow a Twitter account! Such an endeavor would require a substantial fan base; however, it is not outside the realm of possibility.
