Fame For Sale: Leann Rimes Buys Fake Twitter Followers says RadarOnline (Segment)

n this segment from "Fame: For Sale," journalist Frank Elardi talks to RadarOnline news Editor Amber Ryland who reports that country singer Leann Rimes drew suspicion when she suddenly had 50,000 new followers in just one day.

"...So despite the criticism Leann got in April for these random followers, a month later we checked up again and she had gained 100,000 followers this time," said RadarOnline news Editor Amber Ryland. "We took screengrabs, there are certain companies that follow celebrities and show the spikes in their Twitter followers- and 100,000 she got the next month, out of nowhere."

Ryland says this is something that actually hurt Leann's career more than help.

"While Leann bought followers to bolster her career and make it look like she had more fans, it's actually something that can be negative for Leann's career," Ryland said. "When we wrote these stories about her buying Twitter followers, she was attacked on Twitter, saying she's a has-been, she has to buy followers..."
