Facebook's Zuckerberg Says The Age of Privacy is Over

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg told a live audience yesterday that if he were to create Facebook again today, user information would by default be public, not private as it was for years until the company changed dramatically in December.

"Hey everyone, this is Miles. I'm going to try to ignore the astoundingly cruel and callous comments here, but I do want to say a couple things.

1. The old forum is not gone. As anon pointed out, the data is all there and it's currently at this URL http://lonelygirl15.org/forum/index.php

2. The old comments on lonelygirl15 videos are not gone. The slugged URL lg15.com/lonelygirl15 re-directs to the new lonelygirl15 show page, however the old WordPress site and all the data is still there.

3. We'll put a link to the old lonelygirl15 video posts/comments and the old forum on the new lonelygirl15 show page next week.

4. The old "Last" and "Resistance" comments are not gone either. We'll link to them as well, I need to look into the details on Monday.

I want to specifically refer all of you to the post Greg and I made back in August
http://inside.lg15.com/2009/08/14/lg15-phpbb-forum-is-back

We have already held up and will continue to hold up all of the promises that we made in that post.

To all of the nasty commenters, I just want to say that we are people too and your words do affect us. Would you say these things to your mother or your friends? Think about that next time before you hurl expletives in our direction.

I want you to understand our motivations very clearly. Right now we make effectively $0 off the LG15 franchise (we still get a little money from recurring views on YouTube via the partner program). The ONLY reason we are doing all this work on LG15.com is BECAUSE we care about the community and about the brand. We ran TSIY2 and gave the Outbreak team $5k to produce a show because we want to keep the brand alive. We are sentimental too, and we love lonelygirl15 because it gave us everything we have today.

But, I want to re-emphasize my point. We have office rent, health care benefits, server and bandwidth costs. We have a lot of employees. These people have mortgages, rent, car payments, kids, and they depend upon us for their livelihood. We are in the middle of the worst depression since the Great Depression, and our #1 priority has been to stay in business. Now, DESPITE THIS, and when other companies probably would have just shutdown LG15.com because it doesn't generate any revenue, we chose not too do that.

Why?

Because we love the brand and we love the community. But I'll be honest, it's not easy to love someone that spits on you and kicks you when you're trying to help them.

So, I'll leave you with this. I spoken with Austin on the phone several times and we’ve been working with him in preparation for the launch of the show. He’s a great guy who’s really talented and deserves your support. I'm so excited to see the show and I'd love for all of you to focus on what's most important...

Let's support Austin and let's make "Outbreak" into a huge success so that new people can discover LG15 and come to love it as much as we do."

The Web.Files #25 - Dorm Life

Nearly lost in all the Bannen Way excitement, I know shameless plug, is the fact that The Web.Files has kicked off the new year with an interview with Chris Smith, Jack De Sena and Brian Singleton, creators of the web series Dorm Life. The series recently concluded its second season during which it had a sponsorship deal with Carl's, Jr. The trio talk about their various other sponsorship deals with Hulu and MySpace. Also, for some strange reason, I have a craving for a Carl's, Jr. hamburger.

The series, which began as a project at UCLA, is the most viewed web series on Hulu. Beyond the series itself, the creators have created an entire community around the show, where fans can interact with each other and with the characters. In fact, the characters various profiles and twitters are updated by the actors themselves. Dorm Life received a nomination for best ensemble cast last year at the inaugural Streamy Awards, and is certain to be a contender this year as well.

The Bannen Way Excitement

The Bannen Way logo

The highly anticipated and much publicized Bannen Way made its official debut this week on Crackle. So far, the series looks really good. Everything seems to be in frame, in fact I did not see one blurry shot. Also, the dialog is easily understood… I bet they used really good microphones, probably even professional ones. Oh, I heard they had really good craft service on set… I’m just guessing, but there probably was an assortment of cheeses and those little mini hotdogs… people seem to like little mini hotdogs.

Okay, I need to be honest, so much has been written about this series and for so long, that coming up with something new to say, is nigh on impossible. Also, to be frank, I am a little burned out on all the hype. Please don’t misunderstand, I’m sure the show will do well and it is entertaining – nice cars, beautiful women, a likable rouge –; however, I just cannot get excited about the series. I want to be excited about the series, I even wanted to write an article about it to help get other people excited. (This would be said article, how am I doing so far?) Nevertheless, as has become readily apparent, I have had a great deal of difficulty finding the right spin.

P Monkey gambles

The series stars Mark Gantt, as Neal Bannen, a slick thief/conman trying to walk a slightly straighter path, pulled between his police detective father, his crime boss uncle, the loan shark he owes money, and his own baser instincts. He drives a nice car, wears a fancy suit, and has absolutely no trouble getting random women to have sex with him even when he’s pretending to be a sixty-year old accountant. To be fair, watching Bannen skate through life, is good escapist fun; however, there is little about him that I relate to. Perhaps, I simply am too old, after all, I can’t help but think that instead of blowing his money at a poker game, he should have invested his winnings in the California foreclosure market and a nice stable mutual fund.

When all is said and done, The Bannen Way will be a revolutionary web series. Hopefully, this will become one of a string of big-budget, studio-financed web series released in the coming years. If the major studios take an active interest in ‘the space,’ other independent producers like Mark Gantt and Jesse Warren will have the opportunity to realize their dreams of creating large scale web series, which is something to get excited about.

Check out The Bannen Way exclusively on Crackle.

Kristyn Burtt: Year in Review

Every wonder what it is like to be an independent host and entertainment reporter? Okay, neither have I; however, after reading Kristyn Burtt's "Year in Review", I can honestly say that I am significantly more interested.

In addition to hosting the popular web series, The Web.Files, Kristyn hosts various corporate events all around the country. Her "Year in Review" posts not only chronicle the Web.Files episodic journey, but also let readers follow Kristyn as she crisscrosses the USA. After reading the feature one thing is abundantly clear, she travels a lot, and she looks good in a hat… what? you knew that was coming.

Some of the feature's highlights include coverage of the 2009 Streamy Awards, which inspired the creation of The Web.Files; her interview with the cast and crew of OzGirl on a tiny couch; her encounter with the Oprah, during a month long trip to Dallas; and her interview with the surprisingly non bespectacled, Tim Street.

Next year promises many exciting developments for Kristyn Burtt and The Web.Files including interviews with the cast and crew of The Legend of Neil and coverage of the 2010 Streamy Awards. Speaking of the Streamys, I am certain Kristyn would appreciate your nomination for best host and best hosted web series.

In The Bedroom Cracks All Time Top 100

In the last 24 hours, the lonelygirl15 video "In The Bedroom" appeared on the Most Viewed Videos of All Time list on YouTube, clocking in at #99. It is the first time that a lonelygir15 video has made this list.

As we noted a few weeks back, this video recently topped 30 million views, and for whatever reason, continues to receive substantial views daily. And as Mathieas noted on Anchor Cove, "there are a number of copyright violation videos ahead of it, which means they have been removed and are not receiving any more views, so [In The Bedroom] should be able to rise steadily through the ranks."

The Top 10 Most Viewed Lonelygirl15 videos of all time:

1. In The Bedroom 31,141,254
2. Girl Tied Up 13,286,167 views
3. Spicing Things Up 8,129,176 views
