Bloodletting Machine

What is this crazy machine?



Cat on LG15.com found this similar old bloodletting machine called a "Scarifactor":

Actually, it is called a "scarificator" ("...The scarificator, a series of twelve blades, was also in vogue during the 18th Century, This device was cocked and the trigger released spring-driven rotary blades which caused many shallow cuts. The scarificator seems more merciful than the other blood-letting instruments..."). Although the origin of the word (Middle English scarifien, from Old French scarifier, from Late Latin scarīficāre, alteration of Latin scarīfāre, from Greek skarīphāsthai, to sketch, scratch, from skarīphos, pencil, stylus) is quite different from that of the verb "to scare", this instrument it hair-raisingly terrifying.
