"However, I’m not sure that content creators will actually benefit from THIS program. "

  1. We have been having a discussion of this over on the Web Series Network site.

In terms of Youtubers they have worked hard to build up their channels and views. The Youtube program gives them more flexibility in terms of producing videos (in terms of cash flow at least). However in the end it comes down to a business decision of how to obtain the best ROI.

In terms of web series creators few have shown that they are capable of building and sustaining an effective youtube channel strategy. Until they fix that problem they will be left out in the cold. YouTube is a competitive marketplace and those who simply think that producing a web series is all there is to it have a lot to learn.

Marketing is key, and YouTube has every right to support those who have proven they are capable of understanding the fundamentals of marketing. Right now that tends to be the YouTubers rather than the web series creators, but hopefully over time the latter will realize that a shiny product is just not enough.....at least not on YouTube where they don't have front page autoplays inflating their view numbers.

  2. There is only two ways to make money from this, advertising or charging people to view videos. While I'm sure people will disagree with me on this, it's no different than TV.

  3. If there is anyone who can make money from advertising its Google .... but first they need videos that draw in human eye balls...... and I assume this program is supposed to help with that.

In other news, I ran into my first "rental video" on Youtube today, so they seem to be attacking his from both directions Joe.
