  1. here is the tl;dr version:

Operation Payback has decided to break the law. Joining in with the Anonymous who are engaging in criminal attacks (and this is a small subset of Anonymous) is a personal risk.

They compare their illegal activities to those of the US Civil Rights movement, and that may or may not be a well founded comparison. Join them at your own peril.

  2. The arrest of the 16 year old Dutch boy shows that there are in deed risks.

Anon seems to have changed its focus away from disrupting the public face of those who withdrew their support from Wikileaks and towards the core function of Wikileaks with Op.LeakSpin.

Much of the information in these leaks leads us to question the integrity of those in positions of power so whether the expected clamp down is genuine concern over "national security" or simply an attempt to save face is hard to tell.

What is clear is that there will be a clamp down so there are indeed grave risks to those who participate in the support of Wikileaks. At the same time Wikileaks, the New York Times and others who have published these leaks need to be afforded some protection to exercise their journalistic freedom without undue political pressure.

There are many grey areas here.

  5. Also to note if you join anon in their cause you will need to hide your IP in some way.
The "device" they give you to cause the attacks does not hide your IP and can be traced.
