LG15 Today Blog Usage & Participation Growing

With all that is going on, it is easy to overlook the good news about how this blog continues to grow. We have had some amazing days in terms of pageviews when things get exciting in the breeniverse, and the steady number of views keeps growing. In the last couple of weeks we have seen an increase in the number of different authors posting articles on the blog, and in the number adding comments, and that is great! Diverse participation has been the goal since the beginning. SARAH and Dejajeva are the most recent additions to the author's list, and will likely post their first articles soon. (nudge nudge)

Here is some data I collected on blog usage by week ;) ...

In the list below, I have posted the names of people when they first posted articles on the blog. Some things continue to be updated, like kallekelly's weekly birthday postings, the hot topic news items at the top of the blog by Perky and modelmotion, and the LG15 Today Weekly Events calendar.

We are on our way to a record setting week... After just 2 days in June, we already have more visitors and pageviews than we recorded in the last 10 days of March. And we have more articles, more authors, and more commenters than ever before.

05/27 - 06/02 (74 articles by 9 authors, 269 comments)

The numbers above do not tell the entire story, however. Through the blog, we have connected to breeniverse celebrities: Jessica Rose (Bree) in the trailer for upcoming moving "I Know Who Killed Me" starring Lindsay Lohan, Miles Meeping in LG15 Chat, The Creators on video at the ARGfest 2007 conference and notes from Mixed Media with Miles and Greg, pictures of Jackson Davis (Jonas) in the Mixed Media studio, identifying new cast members such as Bitsie Tulloch (Aunt Alex), Becki Kregoski (Taylor), Alexandra Dreyfus (Sarah), the addition of writer Jan Libby to LG15, Bree's stuffed turtle Owen, blogging and on location at Target, guest blogger Nikki Bower, CUSOON Productions video interview of actor Yousef Abu-Taleb (Daniel), and even an interview with Quentin Tarantino about rumors that he might guest direct for Lonelygirl15 (okay, that last one was fiction, but still, it was fun), and gum.

In addition to fun and 100's of newsy items, this blog has provided valuable feedback to the Creators about fan interaction, and about story loose ends. And yes, we have poked fun at the breeniverse logic at times with some gently satirical spoofs (look for the ☺'s in article titles).

We have embedded videos by a large number of LG15'ers including Marcus' Deacon Drop videos, kallekelly's pirate song for Lonelypirates15, rosieiswatching & modelmotion's SouthPark LG15 video, and voyboy's Dream series. Many of our articles are quotations or copies of things found elsewhere, usually with links provided, including related fan blogs such as Milowent's, posts by the Creators, newsworthy quotations from the comments section, quotes from IRC chat, or links to important postings on LGPedia or the Lonelygirl15 forums.

Personally, I appreciate all the news links that keep me informed, but I would also love to see more and more of the original content produced by contributors just for this blog. Get creative! Use the [email protected] address to send contributions or ask to join as an author.

There are also many people behind the scenes who PM or email the regular blog authors with news items and helpful information and images to post. And we have marlasinger quietly working on future blog formatting and art (well we hope she will finish when she gets back from vacation!). So the blog authors are as much collectors as they are creators of content, and the real list of indirect "authors" would be much much longer.

In addition to not having a true count of all the indirect collaborators, we have no count of how many links have been added each week to the right hand column, but you can see how many useful links and RSS feeds there are now, most posted by modelmotion. If you have not been using them, check out the useful links on the right side of the blog.

Modelmotion has also started setting up side blog pages to gather information on special topics like Kate Modern, the Maddison Atkins ARG, or tools for video making. As these develop, it would be great to get more participation by a few dedicated people who are avid followers and want to drive those pages, with short updates with links posted here on the main page.

Note that we try to give individual credit in each article to sources, but if I have left anyone out that should be recognized here, or if you just want to give a shout-out for a past blog contribution not included in this brief sampling of articles, please post a comment!
