Bradley Manning acquitted of aiding the enemy
Bradley Manning cleared of 'aiding the enemy' but guilty of most other charges http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jul/30/bradley-manning-wikileaks-judge-verdict?CMP=twt_gu
Bradley Manning Is Not a Royal Baby
Assigned to an army unit based near Baghdad, Manning had access to databases used by the United States government to transmit classified information. He was arrested after Adrian Lamo, a computer hacker, told the FBI that Manning had confided during online chats that he had downloaded material from these databases and passed it to WikiLeaks. The material included videos of the July 12, 2007 Baghdad airstrike and the 2009 Granai airstrike in Afghanistan; 250,000 United States diplomatic cables; and 500,000 army reports that came to be known as the Iraq War logs and Afghan War logs. It was the largest set of restricted documents ever leaked to the public. Much of it was published by WikiLeaks or its media partners between April and November 2010.
Starting in July 2010 Manning was held at the Marine Corps Brig, Quantico, Virginia, under Prevention of Injury status, which entailed de facto solitary confinement and other restrictions that caused international concern. In April 2011 he was transferred to Fort Leavenworth, where he could interact with other detainees. He pleaded guilty in February 2013 to 10 of the 22 charges, which could carry a sentence of up to 20 years. The trial on the remaining charges, including aiding the enemy, began on June 3, 2013.
Reaction to his arrest was mixed. Denver Nicks, one of Manning's biographers, writes that the leaked material, particularly the diplomatic cables, was widely seen as a catalyst for the Arab Spring that began in December 2010, and that Manning was viewed as both a 21st-century Tiananmen Square Tank Man and an embittered traitor. Several commentators focused on why an apparently very unhappy Army private had access to classified material, and why security measures did not prevent his unauthorized downloading.
United States v. Bradley Manning is the court-martial of United States Army Private First Class Bradley E. Manning.
I recently had the great opportunity to work as a writer for the Felton Films team during the 48 Hour Film Project Atlanta. A handful of other Zombie Socks Family members acted and crewed teams in several other groups as well. If you have never participated in a film race before it can be an incredible experience that tests your limits in every way possible. At 7pm on Friday June 14th we drew a genre at random (we got sci-fi), everyone was given a character and a description (this year was Liam or Linda Oakley Brown an inventor), and lastly a prop that must be incorporated (a towel). We then had 48 hours to write a 7min or less script, cast, shoot, edit, and deliver the finished product to the Mellow Mushroom in Midtown Atlanta. My team was right on target, worked seamlessly together, and came out on top! At the screening for our group on June 26th our film "One Last Time" blew the audience away and we took home the Audience Choice Award for our group! One month later on July 24th the top 6 were screened, along with the other juried prize winners! There were so many amazing films it was hard to pick our 3 favorites. In the end the Felton Films team walked away with 3 awards that night! We received our Audience Choice Award, Best Ensemble Cast Award, and, I am very happy to say, the Best Writing Award! I will say it again and again that being a part of this team will always be one of the biggest highlights of my film endeavors! Thanks so much to Ryan, Jennifer, Brandon, David A., David W., Brayden, Matt, Tom & the best writing partner ever Daniel!
