Iris Sparks off a CiW Speculation on the Cove!

Iris appears to have touched a nerve over in Anchor Cove resulting in a fascinating discussion of who was behind Cassieiswatching.

If thesis students 50 years from now look back and research LG15, CiW would indeed be seen as a watershed moment which changed it forever. With just a simple little tantalizing video, 1000 ships were launched into a frenzy of unimaginable proportions. A thread about the video hit like 75 pages long within like 12 hours, it was absurd. This was the same time as the reveal, but the spotlight and even the entire show was actually being eclipsed by this little video about a (head) being dropped into the swimming hole.

As CiW took a darker turn (perhaps too dark) various people including us decided for the safety of all we should drop it, because things were getting too insane (and frankly annoying). The Creators denied all knowledge of who CiW was, but suspicious still persists amongst those who remember or care.
For example much later we found that I believe it was Greg Goodfried's sister who wrote on Alli Danziger's wall something about a severed head in a bag... this of course matched speculation surrounding what fans thought was in the bag (wasn't it AC who first came up with that hilarious theory?) The message seemed to implicate they were involved... and as we know Alli D's friend Amanda Goodfried turned her into a spin-off star herself post-Cassie. Amanda has done a whole lot of the side-stuff with LG15, and I would not be surprised one bit if it was she who did CiW (the Creators themselves denied involvement... but Amanda isn't a Creator. NikkiB denied being canon or connected to the LG15 project long after the actress was revealed to be Amanda Goodfried's real-life good friend. If NikkiB was not considered as being involved with the Creators by the Creators, then perhaps that explains their claim that CiW was not connected either despite possibly being orchestrated by one of their wives or other friends?
They've been known to twist the truth in the past to save face) and frankly I don't see how a totally random unrelated fan could possibly have found the exact spot of the swimming hole without any help at all. Some have said that some people know those parks very well and could have recognized it, however as we know more recent LA fan gatherings have barely drawn anyone- to assert that a fan who also happens to have a deep knowledge of LA area parks took this initiative and did all that themselves.

I could talk in circles about CiW speculation so I better stop, but basically the moral of the story is while the world has been silent on the disavowed CiW, I don't see how anyone except friends/spouses of the Creators could have possibly pulled that off, unless they had a stalker (which they didn't seem too concerned about). If it was a random fan, don't you think they might have eventually come forward with such an explosive secret after it was long ended? I mean itscassie revealed herself once the show was over, why not CiW? It could be because those same CiW people are involved with the series to this day and keep their secrets close. Also Glenn, famous for 'bringing down Cassie', still has some secrets of his own ( Tachyon uploading a video around the same time LG15 first started? How?). If I really wanted to speculate wildly, I might even suggest he was enlisted by the Creators to 'kill Cassie', so to speak, since she had gotten so out of hand. I mean hacking someone's phone... without their permission... is illegal... yet nobody seemed to mind, and as it just so happened that his own OpAphid took off and was 'canonized' thanks to her death. Makes you wonder if this canonization occured long before it actually went public...

Maybe the truth is stranger than fiction, in this case. The day there's a market for it, I'll be writing a "tell all." LOL.

But really, you give me (and others) far too much credit, HyeMew--at least as far as foresight is concerned.

However, the person behind CiW really did change the rules of the game. If anything, it tapped into much of the speculation around LG15 at a time when a large portion of the fanbase was receptive to its darker take on creepy religions.

It also showed that a grass roots series could be marketed through an implied "tangental" connection to another online series (which LG15 did themselves at the beginning with Bree "shouting out" other vloggers).

As for me...well, I had a story from a screenplay outline I'd written back in 2001 about a secret religious society and its "black ops" department vs. a secret agent investigating them. I also had some of the YouTube and domain names in place when I'd thought about telling that story online in January of 2006.

So when I finally had the lightbulb go off to position it as a form of tangental/non-contradictory original fiction, I tested the waters...and after the establishing videos to set things up, you can see that my original storyline was getting started with "The Action of An Enemy" video. And of course...LG15 came knocking a good 3-4 days after that posting, completely throwing things into a state of disarray I've still yet to recover from. LOL.

And I have my own theories RE: CIW, but I know enough to know that no one knows and apparently the PM wants it that way. But it definitely wasn't me or Miles/Mesh/Greg/Amanda

Note: a minor edit was made to the original Hyemew post.

  1. Great discussion, but how did Iris' video start that? It was just random shots of his house and him saying he is done. Maybe someone can explain that one to me. . .

  2. Awww, CiW, I miss those days! I don't think it was Amanda, just because of the direction that CiW was going seemed to clash with the real LG15 story. I thought that was why it ended so abrubtly.

Personally, I still think it was Cu Roi, even though he denied it. He recieved ALL the drops and was a regular to the unfiction forums, so he was no stranger to ARGs.

Who'd have thought that after all those creepy videos and drops and puzzle solving would end up with a dancing cow party in Second Life? Did that last monster of an anagram ever get solved??

  3. The Speculation is Useless, You'll Only Fail.

  4. Interesting stuff. Just in case there is any doubt, none of us (including Amanda) had anything to do with CiW. We still have no idea who made the videos.

  6. Although I participated in LG15 more as a "watcher" than a particpant in the early stages...CIW was a snippet in the grand scheme of LG that has been a mystery - but moreso has been a unifying force for a core group of us that were genuinely dedicated to the creators perhaps initial concept. I know there has never been an answer to this one blip in the LGUniverse - aside from the obvious interception of Glenn. I have a hard time accepting everyone's overreaction to the "sinister and dark turns" that everyone believed CIW introduced to LG. The mere introduction of Aleister Crowley was macabre enough. I had never heard of the man until I got involved with LG and the research I chose to delve into was nothing compared to those scenes. Yes it was graphic and maybe unwarrented - but was it really THAT surprising?

And as for those that are still convinced that Cu Roi had any hand in LG or CIW at all - I can assure you - I've met him - the good friends I've made over the year have met him - He was nothing more than a dedicated player like NillaWafers, Noava22 and others who were asked to - by those who will remain nameless - to not be as active participants in other phases of this "game."

I appreciate the concept and understand that in a new medium there are kinks - but there have been far to many of those "kinks" over the extended period of time we've had to adjust.

There are fans that have remained genuinely dedicated despite the drama and the deception and I believe they deserve a great deal more credit than they have been given.

  7. The Sinister and Dark side of Cassie was what drew people to the "game" in the first place.
This is why many of us who participated tended to break off from the whole LG15 part completely, Cassie challenged us, ever for the brief time she did, and gave us somewhat of a "thriller" sotry to follow.

I think that whomever the Cassie PM is, is still "around" but even after a year, fledgling PM or not, they may still be a little "hurt" that their efforts were pretty much squashed by someone who intentionally and maliciously "game jacked" for their own advancement.

I hope that whomever it was realizes that the "Watchers" appreciated everything they did, and the attempt they made to create a game for us.

After a year of nothing, I truly cant believe that the argument over Cu's participation is still being voiced. Seriously people, get over it. We had these discussions last year, and it still lead us nowhere. Cu was a gamer and participant on UF, and knew the "basic rules" for ARGs and Playing your own game is a MAJOR no no. Not that anyone in any LG15 related ARG spin-off seems to pay attention to the ARG community and their ideas of rules anyway. But its not something as an ARGer that you do.

I think everyone needs to accept that we'll never know who the CiW PM is and thank them for what they tried to accomplish, and just move on, chalk it up to one of lifes great mysteries, and maybe hope that one day in the future, they will do "something" for us just to let us know that they appreciated us playing!

  8. it seems to me this is a lot of speculation from someone who doesnt really know what went on. cu was not the pm, the reason he got most of the drops was because he was an avid arg player on a game with a bunch of amatures, most of us had no clue what an arg even was when CiW started. also, how idiotic would it be to pick up all your own drops, seems like a lot of work to encode those puzzles so well if you were just going to solve it first anyway. and for those of you who think its glen, he has both a completely different puzzle style and visual set up. i dont mind if you want to have an intelligent conversation about cassie and what went on, but before you speculate about CiW you might at least take the time to find out what actually occured, there are a bunch of CiW allums still around in irc, im sure any one of us would be more than happy to give you a clearer picture.

  9. Yeah, the theory about Glenn actually being the PM isn't one that original CiW players who still hang around in IRC actually believe - so I agree with you on that one. The only thing we've ever accused Glenn of was being a gamejacker who piggybacked CiW to get OpAphid a following ;) lol
