In a striking display of the power of live video, Abraham K. Biggs committed suicide on Wednesday while broadcasting himself on video site Justin.tv.

  1. I wouldn't call this a "striking display of the power of live video". I'd call it a terribly sad, horrible tragedy that could have been prevented. Those who "egged him on" should be rounded up and reeducated. Honestly, mental health problems are devastating enough for an individual without someone (or a group of someones) praying on that vulnerability instead of either supporting them, or simply not inflaming the situation.

  2. I agree.
This is awful in every way. I am more disgusted with people than usual. And that's saying something.

  6. I think newteevee is being really irresponsible linking to the videos and covering this story.

The family should be left alone to mourn. This is hard enough without media attention and being able to see the video all over the net.

Trust me guys, I know from personal experience that media coverage does not help when someone commits suicide. It only makes the hurting more public. Dealing with the the death of a loved one who died because of suicide is very personal and very private. Suicide is unlike any death because the wake of destruction it leaves in its path.

I would encourage EVERYONE not to watch the video or links the videos. And maybe complain to NewTeeVee about the videos. I know I will. If anyone wants to know more about what my family went through specifically, I'd be willing to share.

Please remember the family in your thoughts and prayers. They are going to have a rough time for quite awhile.

  7. You are right veela. There is no reason for anyone to see the video footage. It does nobody any good. It's sick. And having it up is spitting in the face of the family.

If this is real it is a horrible example of the dehumanizing we are doing to ourselves.
