Live Chat With Greg Goodfried (terminated)

::::: Eqal Stickam chat with Greg Goodfried at 4pm Pacific today (see below).

::::: Read the list of fan submitted questions for Greg Goodfried.

This article was written live and may contain substanitive errors. We hope to correct these over time. Any opinions expressed are the opinions of Greg Goodfried and or Eqal. but please remember this is only a best effort to provide an outline of what was said.

Greg apologized to the misfits for coming down on them too hard.

Their funding goes towards the company not the projects. They do not have resistance season 2 funding at the moment. They will be continuing, but the advertising market sucks in 2009. They want to harness the community's talent so TSIY was born.

They will help with logistics and donate equipment if they live in LA. The winner WILL BE WINNING SOME MONEY IN THE END....details later.

They debated selecting the misfits. The Poll on LG15Today was the breaking point on selecting The Misfits.

Banner ads may be visible on the site in time.

They were offered $2,500. Reaction was disappointing from Jenni's side. She wanted to submit a budget, hire producers and actors, etc. Amanda broke into tears because Jenni went out, she wanted more money. This is "not there fault(s)." They don't want to look like the bad guy. Greg was "pissed.' He wished they never submitted. The Last is "doing cartwheels" over the $2,500. He hopes to God we give The Last the support. They are going against state laws by not giving money. They wanted to surprise with the money.

He wanted the pilot winner to play it like they did in the beginning. Assumed he would do it with just friends and family. Thought that MaxterBexter were "sooooo cool" for keeping connected with the community.

All answers are in TOS... which they are not allowed to break. EQAL is a studio/comany that owns LG15 property. Owns the mythology. Owners of copyrights can make derivative works. The TOS reads that "The World" may make derivative works of the LG15 universe. Non commercial, new story, must be uploaded to LG15.com (link, etc.) Subject to the LG15 license given. "It's kind of like creative commons". LG15 isn't making any money off of the TSIY show. The winner still makes $2,500 anyway.

The "rude post" was so that the community can get a full answer. "Creative differences" would give an unclear answer.

The question for revenue sharing: "Absolutley"

Focusing mainly on TSIY 1 now. All for open collaberation with shows.

Copyrighted music was allowed in Pilot, Seth was giving a bunch of cleared music to the winner for the show. Again, lack of funding. When Obama fixes the Economy, the advertisers will be awesome and then they will finish LG15:TR.

TSIY is wanted to stay in the universe, keep same mythology.

Virgil (Joey) would work for free if he won TSIY.

Tech Developement is a hard thing. They have a team working on the website and forum functionality for new shows. "With the technology, you guys, please bear with us." Eqal is both a content / tech company. "The technology drives the content". We will have a very exciting year at EQAL.

They are trying there best towards a n1ckola translation.

100% of the other pilots were clear that they would not be receiving financial compensation. Assume when entering TSIY you will get no money.

"Razor thin decision is choosing The Last and The Misfits.

He like's their accents.

They are not behind CiW.

They are working on solutions. They cannot use phpBB due to site integration. One or two dedicated forum workers. He's not the tech-guy, he will learn about turning the phpBB back on.

He apologizes for being "rude," he was pissed and his wife was upset, but doesn't apologize for the abrasive clairification. EQAL will not stop with TSIY. Watching and learning about the pilots was "Magical"

Amanda's pregnancy is a super-secret.

He does not know about the runners up. He's leaving to go ask... Lot of support for Randy!"

"So guys, how'd I do? We all friends again?:"

No premier date for the last yet.

Working on translating n1ckola and an english site for lg15.com/n1ckola

Misfits is not canon.

He knows nothing about the italian market.

Working mostly on first person. Maybe more third person depending on n1ckola. Not their decision for third person for n1ckola.

"Aussie Aussie Aussie" "We are pumped to see what you guys do".

"Alright. That's it"

"Byyyyyye!"

  2. Thanks, MM. Sorry about my ridiculous amount of typos, punctuation issues, etc. I hope it's fixable.

  3. Yea we got the basics down so I think people can get what they want out of it.

  4. One thing we would like to clarify is that we clearly stated that the Poll on LG15 Today was non scientific and meant as fun. With such a small N and no statistical sampling it is very dangerous to draw any conclusion from such a poll and while it was interesting it was just that: a fun poll that probably should not have been relied upon to evaluate the contestants and we were pretty clear about that at the conclusion of the poll.

  5. Thanks for writing this transcript.

  6. @ 5:22 pm!

Don't say such mean things about Jenni. She is a VERY good person!

  7. EQAL saw their treatment though-maybe they should have asked if the Misfits had funding in place before choosing them as a winner. I would imagine the Misfits couldn't shoot their project with 2 SAG on the weekends for the same reason the Resistance can't continue to shoot their show with SAG actors on the weekends.

Having said that, you can shoot 4 videos on $2500. It's hard to believe they couldn't have made this work.

  11. This whole thing is just sad. That's the only conclusion I can come to yet.

  12. Somehow I can see EQAL all coming together for their weekly meeting and going

"Okay, issue #1...let's never do THAT again. All in favor?"

    "Aye!"

    "Alright. Issue #2..."

  13. THERE IS NO U IN EQAL

  14. Greg wrote yesterday that there's no NDA. I would like to hear the other side of this still. I feel like there's a missing link still, as far as what sort of communication went on between Jenni and Eqal. There must be emails and if there's no NDA and Greg said he was okay with it, maybe she could show us what led her to believe that there would be compensation. Also, I'd love to see the treatment and what they had planned.

  15. I hope the guys doing "The Last" got the exchange rate correct. Or we'll be going through this again.

    You forgot the koala tax.

  19. It should be interesting to hear Glenn talk about things he can't talk about tomorrow night. Will it be a ramble or a rant? Or will he fain ignorance of the whole matter?
    Tune in to find out!

  20. Wow thats was a pretty intense chat, shame i couldnt be there.
Sad to hear jenni asked for more, then again i doubt maxterbexter would work for such penny for 8 weeks.

You guys are also forgetting Amanda gave Kevin's services to the misfits as an added bonus (in her chat). The Last wont get that offer will they? Seems like the Last are getting a bum deal, but by the sounds of it, they are happy.

I just think we shud concentrate on supporting The Last now, i will 100%.

    ReplyDelete
  21. :):):)

and Joe that koala tax is 4.36%

  22. When I heard Greg say "We're allowed to break our own TOS" ...I lost it. That was a massive, stinking pile of bullshit. I hate the smiley guy that asked the question as much as anyone...but I mean...come on...they hold a contest...the entire CHAT he just did - answered every question with "It's in the TOS". And then he says "...we're allowed to break it if we want."

Pretty much made all of the excuses null and void for me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I was kidding about the TOS. It was like saying that an owner of a restaurant can give someone a free meal even though it has a price on the menu. We would NEVER break the TOS to the detriment of the members of our site. You knew exactly what I meant, it was a joke!

    ReplyDelete
  24. No, I didn't know exactly what it meant...and it still proves the point brought up in chat:
You said you wouldn't offer any kind of monetary compensation...and yet you did. You broke your own TOS...I'm not saying it to be hateful or mean...I don't really care...I'm just saying...kind of ironic.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Cricket Lee

That's terrible for you to say. I'm sure this was highly emotional for all involved parties: Jenni, Amanda, Greg, Logan, and everyone else. Please don't attack them so viciously.

    ReplyDelete
  26. CricketLee, WTF is your problem? They aren't expecting a full production, where have you been? They are only requiring 2 videos a week. TWO? If you think THAT is a full production, you need to lay of the crack.

And $2,500 is NOT a shoestring budget in this case. This is supposed to be an amateur production from the community whom was not even offered compensation. So to even be surprised with $2,500 and not take it is ungrateful, rude and greedy. So don't go off like that about something you don't know. That is very rude of you, and I believe that you need to think before you post.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lets be honest. We would all be disappointed if something like this didn't happen. LG15 is nothing without the drama.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wow, Cricket Lee, that was kind of um...inappropriate? Rude? Uncalled for? Overboard?

As Randy had said, 2500 dollars is a lot of money for a 2 videos per week production...for 8 weeks? That is totally doable. If Sam and I were offered 2500 dollars for RP07, I bet we would take it. They didn't have to offer money at all, but guess what? They did. Considering that The Resistance is being held off for financial reasons, it is incredibly generous to dig out 2500 dollars for another web series.

I was talking to Sept about this, and I'm stealing her words: I find it hysterical that people who were so against The Misfits being taken down didn't even show up to the STickam event to hear Greg's side of the story.

You all need to take a giant chill pill and take a walk or something. If you can sit back and talk shit on the Creators because they offered over 2,000 dollars to the winner and THEY refused it, then maybe you should check your common sense factor because it is seriously lacking.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Okay, can we all just declare all of this drama over? Please? This ENTIRE thing has blown way out of proportion. Greg came forward and made every thing clear. Any comments like "WELL YOU SAID DA-DA-DA-DA CLEARLY SHOWING YOU PREFER DOO-DOO-DOO AND SHOWING YOU'RE A BIASED PIECE OF CRAP" are just fishing for more trouble.

To all the Anon's, I still insist stop being lazy bums and make accounts. That's all I have to say to you.

I want to apologize to The Last and 6 Degrees. The Last for this whole shit-fest making every one forgetting that your pilot was cinematic, smart, and well put together. I honestly hope its a huge success.

To Six Degrees, I apologize as I have not yet watched your show or any thing, but I'm sorry this drama has completely over-shadowed your launch. I hope your show does very well.

Now, please, for the love all things good and citrus, LET IT GO. ITS DONE.

  30. ROTFLMFAO

You stupid LG15 "community". (quotes not used lightly)

You could have had so many things.

Lonelygirl15, CIW, OpAphid, Facility J, The Red Territory, theCoalition.TV.

You don't even realize it is your own insatiable consumption, contention and negativity that alienates you from every possibility that comes your way.

    So sad. So very sad.

    *shakes head repetitiously*

    So, so very sad.

    Ah, well, such is life.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Someone said:

"Having said that, you can shoot 4 videos on $2500. It's hard to believe they couldn't have made this work."

But asking for 2 videos a week for 8 weeks is 16 videos. That's $156.25 per video. Which is fine if they're bare-bones, but none of us saw the treatment.

Jenni is a smart, capable person. If she thought there was more money, she had a reason to think so. It's not even the money, it's the principal of the thing. They're all going to continue drawing salaries - good ones, I'll bet - while the tsiy is being produced. So in a sense, the EQAL team would be getting paid by Misfits, since that would have been its content during the time period in question. Does that sound fair to you?

    ReplyDelete
  32. A MINIMUM of 2 videos/week.

We don't even know if the Misfits stuck to that.

I'd like to see the treatment. Something tells me it should've been obvious that there was no way this production could've been done on what EQAL offered.

    ReplyDelete
  33. $2500 seemed like a fair reward for winning, it's better than nothing.
I'm glad Greg cleared some things up, we have heard his side of the story so why don't The Misfits tell us their side?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Just wanted to comment on this: "They are working on solutions. They cannot use phpBB due to site integration. One or two dedicated forum workers. He's not the tech-guy, he will learn about turning the phpBB back on."

Huh? What do you mean you can't use phpBB due to site integration? phpBB3 is *easy* to integrate with WordPress and MediaWiki. My personal site has all three, plus chat, all using a single sign-on. All that remains is to develop a style that is a bit more consistent across all of them. Here's the offer I've already made: If the C's are interested, I'd be more than willing to help with that type of integration.

  36. Wintermute, it's pointless. They aren't bringing the phorum back...and it's sad. it would take LITERALLY 15 minutes to reactivate it. It's ALREADY integrated into their site.

    http://www.lg15.com/lonelygirl15/forum/index.php?sid=d873fd8f6d120888e9f7b5398284541d

They LITERALLY just have to change the top link, and reactivate the user privileges. That's it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Having listened to what Greg said again he was talking about integration of "comments" into the discussion board. This seems to have been the sole stumbling block. In other words is was so important to have comments archived within the discussion board that they had to scrap the discussion board because they could not find any other way to do that. At least that is what is implied.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @modelmothion, That makes a bit more sense. That said, with the old site, I think there was a way to do it.

@killmrsmiley, That's not exactly what I mean by integration. Single sign-on was one of their big complaints about the old site. I can solve that ;) My own site already integrates most of the pieces to the puzzle.
