Update - LG15: The Show Is Yours

"There have been a few changes to “LG15: The Show Is Yours” and we will now be featuring “LG15: The Last,” the talented group from Sydney, Australia. We are SO excited about the new cast of characters, international location, and story that “LG15: The Last” will bring to the LG15 Universe. We are confident that with their amazing creative concept, ingenuity, and community participation, “LG15: The Last” will be AWESOME!!!

This change was brought on by “The Misfits” production team’s decision to back out of “LG15: TSIY.” The production team incorrectly believed that EQAL was going to fully finance their show even though we made it very clear in the rules that we were not going to finance the chosen pilot. This project is about giving you, the community, a chance we never had – a platform to showcase your talent and gain experience and exposure. This was never about financial reward, but rather an opportunity for the best community show to be featured front and center on LG15.com and to become part of the ever expanding canon. In our minds, and the other producers who submitted pilots, this is a fantastic opportunity.

So please join us in welcoming The Last to the LG15 Universe and we hope that you embrace their show with same passion and fervor you have shown us."

  1. I am actually kind of glad of this change. I really want to see how the last unfolds as a main show. I have a feeling it will expand the universe a lot more than the misfits.

However, I thought that there was going to be a runner-up that took place in the main show's story... shouldn't they announce a second runner up? I mean, than it affects the entire plan...

  2. Not opposed to the Last, but seriously - the Misfits were going to make LG15 better, with cast that used to got paid.

How on earth could EQAL ever look at that and think those actors would/should go back to NOT getting paid for an 8-week show?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Well, I'm disappointed, but I think every Misfit fan is at the news. I thought it was strange that one article posted here stated that they were going to receive funding for the show. I wish they would have continued doing it regardless, but I understand the need for payment for your work.

The Last seems great and I'm really excited about it, and in fact it was in my top three picks for TSiY (Along with Miss May Flower and...well, the Misfits)so I'm actually quite happy to hear that we'll still be getting a quality show.

  4. EQAL - you did NOT make it 'fully clear' there was no payment.

    Way to ruin this contest!!!!!!

  5. Sounds like the Misfits were Misled

  6. The following is no offense to The Last, who I congratulate and I hope you do well.

However, this is completely devastating. I wanted to see The Misfits, and I can't believe that EQAL let monetary compensation be the basis to let what I think would have been a great series walk out the door. EQAL would have had the fans interested in TSIY because of cross-over continuation of characters along with a new storyline and new characters. I doubt the Misfits were asking for a million dollars. It would have well worth EQAL's while. The community had already displayed their preference, which was evidenced by many different measures, including polls and discussion.

As excited as I was for TSIY when it was first announced, I am that much more disappointed now. What a devastating, and needless, blow.

The rules were not clear, BTW. There was never explicit mention of whether or not EQAL would pay anything. I love the spin job.

The excitement I felt for TSIY is now totally and completely gone and in the other direction now. Its a shame, and too bad.

Again, none of that is against The Last. The rant has nothing really to do with them, they just happen to be the ones taking the place of The Misfits. I wish them the best.

  7. why on earth would the actors and Logan and Jenni give up 8 weeks of their lives for free? people still have to eat and pay rent! that would be a full time job! what were you thinking, EQAL?

  10. This is bad for the community. I like the Last quite a lot, but we don't need community drama right now.

    *sigh*

  11. I agree Veela. I say we just need to support The Last right now. Now need for complaining, please! Peace and love... kind of :)

  12. I have to tell ya, the more I re-read that statement, the more upset I get. What a total spin job.

Like The Misfits just carelessly bounced in and bounced out of the project. EQAL was just sitting innocently by going "Oh Mercy Me" while The Misfits rushed in, said "sike" and then just backed out. Its of course totally their fault because EQAL rules!

Give me a freaking break. Its like EQAL can never quite make a full commitement to community. Everything falls just a bit short. The technology always fails, but we had the best intentions. No, EQAL can't accept fan responses on youtube! Crazy talk!! Fan videos are not worthy to be posted as responses.

I believed in what was TSIY. I thought this was really going to be something. Now, TSIY meekly ends with a botched spin job. Thanks, EQAL.

  14. The so called "rules of the competition" were nebulous at best. Eqal, Inc. had plenty of opportunity to discuss this openly with the community when many said it would be only fair for the show to be compensated if their was any "profit". Instead Eqal chose to be silent as they have so many times before. This time however they got burned and it was their approach to the contest that generated this situation.
The community is always here and always willing to engage in a dialogue. Eqal, Inc. on the other hand chose to exercise their right as a private company to make their own decision and this is what it led to. One has to question if it would not have been better for Eqal, Inc. to sit down with the community and work out what would serve in both parties mutual interest instead of embarking on a poorly thought out project with very fuzzy guidelines.

  15. I say we have a royal fan revolt and send them emails/letters asking them to consider giving Misfits SOME kind of funding.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I have to say that the production values acting and writing for Misfits have something that could stand on its own merit and they could probably do even better not under the Eqal umbrella. Though it's so sad that this means Taylor and Spencer's story is now officially over. Weird that LG15 just threw their actors out so heartlessly. I don't understand that at all. This statement was just so cold when you consider how beloved these characters were to us. But we'll probably never know what goes on behind the scenes because Eqal is silent on most issues.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Killmrsmiley, I'm sorry, you're being a bit too dramatic.

I'm upset as well, but I honestly don't think CBS gives a damn what EQAL does with the LG15 licensing or series as it doesn't effect them in the slightest.

If you want The Misfits so bad, what if instead of trying to get EQAL fired from CBS (which is just over-the-top in the ridiculous factor) what if instead we collectively write letters to EQAL asking them to at least allow some sort of funding towards The Misfits as it genuinely seems like the community at large wants to see this show happen.

Look, guys at EQAL: Please come forward and start talking to the community. You did it last time the shit hit the fan, so please do it again and PLEASE treat us respectively. As a member of the community, I think that's all we can ask for: For you to tear down this wall and actually let us feel like we're part of some thing again.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'd like someone to please point out to me where EQAL said they were going to "fully finance" anything.

I sure as hell didn't see that anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  19. See Lime, I used to agree with you, until I realized how fuk'd up eqal is. They aren't gonna give two pisses about written letters. They've had countless amounts of e-mails and messages from fans with honest requests...simple requests...fix the forum...level with us...tell us what's happening over at the offices if there's financial problems.

But they don't listen. They delete the emails, and they'll throw the letters in the trash...and they'll glaze over this whole mess like it never happened...and they'll put out some dumbass 'statement' about how nothing is the matter, and how they're 'really excited!' about the community interest, about new stuff in the works, new features, etc. etc. and they'll try and appease us by pretending there's no problem.

There IS a big fucking problem, and for ONCE, we as a community deserve to have them acknowledge it.

I don't care HOW they acknowledge it...if they suddenly say 'just kidding! Misfits is back, and JONAS is starring!' or honestly if they just decide to post a picture on insideLG15 of Greg giving us the finger and saying 'FUCK you guys!' and running off with a sack of 5 million dollars...just SOMETHING to let us know that they want to have SOME kindsof open and honest relationship with their base...

This isn't just about 'The Misfits'. This is about how EQAL ***ALWAYS*** responds to criticism or problems like this in the community...and about how we should collectively put the giant foot down and say enough is enough.

    ReplyDelete
  20. so EQAL thought they could offer up the actors and then assume they would work for free?

  22. Here's a question.
Since EQAL has been blasted for not discussing the money, WHY WEREN'T THEY SPECIFICALLY ASKED?

In Amanda's very first post on insideLG15 about TSIY, she gave contact information should anyone have ANY questions.

Did The Misfits gang bother to ask?

    What a frigging stupid assumption.

  24. why are you assuming the misfits gang assumed? i doubt jenni and logan wouldn't check on something like this considering they've worked with EQAL before

  25. Y'know...we were ALL looking at this a few weeks ago and were thinking

"This contest is gonna go down the shitter for sure. Without a doubt."

    We've arrived, folks.

    ReplyDelete
  26. "Since EQAL has been blasted for not discussing the money, WHY WEREN'T THEY SPECIFICALLY ASKED?"

    - we all asked very publicly and openly. There were discussions for days and the c chose to ignore them. That was their choice to make but as we all know they have stayed silent on controversial issues time and time again and failed to enter into a serious dialogue.

I remember after the 5 day world wide comments boycott where all we were asking was a chance to sit down and discuss a few issues the c agreed to a private chat. So what was discussed. Nothing because they stood up the chat!!!!!! After that a large number of long standing and loyal fans just left the community.

So, yea.. TEAR DOWN THAT WALL!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. For those of you not familiar with the "comment boycott" here is a little history for you:

  28. LOL Tomm.

A comment on LG15today, among 71 other comments btw, is not using the contact information given by Amanda on insideLG15 and asking a question.

FYI this blog is not run by EQAL. I'm sure this blog is not even read by anyone at EQAL anymore because of the constant bashing last year.

All of this is ridiculous, and the ONLY ones to blame are The Misfits. It was understood that these shows were to be self-funded, and the assumption that Jenny, Logan and crew made is their fault, and not the fault of EQAL.

If they couldn't follow through on their show, they should never have submitted the pilot.

  34. Hey everyone,

We understand that many of you are disappointed and so are we. But please understand that we did not mean for this to happen. When we created the pilot process we did not mention anything about financing the pilots.

We imagined that you, the community, would submit shows like lonefox, the facility, the coalition . . . shows that many of you are already doing for fun as a creative outlet in your spare time. We never imagined that at any time any applicants would be "giving up their day job" or produce a show that would take up their whole life. We imagined this as something that many of the talented creators in this community were already doing in their spare time, after school, or on the weekend and that your production teams would be made up of family and friends (just like we were in the beginning).

We only asked for two videos per week (16 total) because we knew from experience that this could be done over a couple of weekends. This was never intended to be a full time job/commitment for the TSIY winning producer.

When we saw The Misfits, we expected that they got the actors and other friends to participate for the exposure. We expected that they would take a couple weekends and shoot a bunch of videos - just like we used to in the early days.
We never expected to be asked for money as we never promised giving money for the productions.

I think that all of the other pilot contestants did not think they were getting financing. If I am wrong, I apologize, but we were NEVER asked by any of the entrants if we would finance any of the shows. I know for a fact that LG15: The Last didn't expect financing. We tried to set up a cool experience for producers who before TSIY were making shows without any promotion. We wanted to take one of these shows, or a new show, and give it great promotion.

If it will help mend wounds, I would be happy to do a live chat with everyone and answer as many questions as you have.

The last thing we want is to upset anyone.

Also, with all that being said, we are REALLY excited to watch LG15: The Last and we hope that you will support them as much as you would have supported The Misfits.

    Thanks

    Greg

  35. There was a very open dialogue about this. To suggest that Eqal was unaware would only be to imply they were totally out of touch with the community. And we know they actually do keep tabs on what is going on because they respond on insideLG15 when there is confusion. In this instance they said nothing and contributed to this horrible situation.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Um...can we just be friends and wait for a more thorough explanation/statement before we go berserk here, guys?

We haven't heard from the Misfits team yet, and I think EQAL realizes it'll have some more explaining to do. Patience & peace until then?

    ReplyDelete
  37. the press announcement was shitty, because it read like a backstab to jenni, logan, and their crew --

"The production team incorrectly believed that EQAL was going to fully finance their show even though we made it very clear in the rules that we were not going to finance the chosen pilot."

    "very clear"?

ok, here is the the original announcement of the contest:
    http://inside.lg15.com/2008/12/16/lg15-the-show-is-yours-submit-your-pilot/

it is far from "very clear". if it was so "very clear," why did i read many people asking this very question during the submission period?

this bullet from the announcement was vague at best:

"For more information about how your content will be used on LG15.com and by EQAL and others about your obligations and the rights you will grant without monetary consideration, please refer to our Terms of Use. Your submission of material further confirms your acceptance of the Terms of Use."

this is not a clear statement, by any means, that there will not be any monetary consideration. in fact, it suggests under one possible interpretation that there are rights that will be granted FOR monetary consideration outside those covered by the Terms of Use.

its too bad that a joint statement couldn't have been negotiated.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The big point is...it's not like EQAL can't afford it...they just REFUSE to. Which is why this is messed up.

Didn't they JUST get a whole bunch of cash???? You're telling me they CAN'T throw some of that TSIY's way?

They CAN'T just offer the winner's the money gained from the utube partnership during the show's run??

I REFUSE to believe that this can't be solved on EQAL's part.

(And, no, sugarcoating everything and ignoring The Misfits doesn't count)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I doubt the Misfits will be allowed to respond if they signed a NDA...

    Or can they Greg?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Greg -

If there was never any intention to pay, why did you offer up the PAID ACTORS AND CHARACTERS to be used?

This is a disingenuous attempt to salvage your screw-up. It's cold to think you could get Becki and Max to be apart of a free show.

Getting them to be on the pilot is a "favor." Getting them to do an 8-week show for free is robbery.

If it was so cut-and-dry, WHY DID YOU NOT JUST SAY "no money will be offered"? Because you wanted to tempt people and then ambush them to do it for free.

    Shame on you, EQAL.

    ReplyDelete
  41. oh, i just saw greg's post... i appreciate his honesty and openness.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous, we did NOT offer up the actors. Jenni had a personal connection with Becki and Maxwell. We had nothing to do with their participation. We love Becki and Maxwell and thought it was so cool that they wanted to be part of the show. But we had nothing to do with it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I had a fantastically long post all written out, and lost it, so I will attempt to keep this short.

It was stated in the original post that linked to the tos that there would be no monetary compensation.

Beyond that, even if it was assumed there would be, maybe if you went the extra mile and had better equipment and better actors why would that change?

If there is no up front discussion on compensation in the rules, in the announcement that is meant to get your immediate attention, THERE IS NO FINANCIAL COMPENSATION.
(consider that a lesson in life, if you are not fully aware of what you are getting paid, then don't take the job, cause you're getting screwed)

The lack of communication issue from Eqal has been ongoing. I don't see what the surprise is. Questions are asked in a public forum, or even in email, questions that affect the community and our interests and the responses are nebulous, ineffective, or don't come at all. Again, these are not surprises.

I agree that there is a certain amount of spin on this situation, but they are a corporation run by two lawyers and a doctor, these are not uneducated people. Do you think there won't be spin?

My issue is how do we handle this? Things like this are part of what has continued to divide this community. Is it possible that Eqal is trying to self destruct their bread and butter? They tried to shed us once, seeking a new audience with a new show, a new website (which has still not improved) new teams which have only made an already convoluted story more convoluted. Every chance they have to have a "group" announcement is met with less control, and performed in unstable, undersupervised platforms that can clearly not support the fan load that still turns up for these events. Our "parent" has abandoned us, and still we grovel at their feet for attention and affection that we are not given.

There is much more to this story that we don't know on both sides. For my two cents, the Misfits was not "Ours" was it produced by a member of the community, yes, but there is more to it, with the use of professional actors, and people who clearly had higher production capabilities than the average fan this was not "our" show.

Now (yes I realize my short post has gone out the window in light of recent posts and the flight of ideas issues I have) One of the many anonymous posters says "Its not like they can't afford it...they just REFUSE to." We don't know that this is entirely true. Yes we know that they have the CBS deal, but we also know they do have other projects, they have bills to pay, and if the mythology of the series is true, they are likely still paying off credit card debt, although I'm guessing their limits are a lot higher than the average viewers. There is not a bait and switch on this. On day one it was stated there would be no monetary consideration.

Ok I'm done... for now. Maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  47. If there was money involved it would have been stated in the contest announcement. Period.

EQAL was offering their fans EXPOSURE by being LG15 canon and to be featured on LG15.com with their own show page on the site. MOST importantly though, they were offering a ready-made EAGER audience. You won't get that anywhere else.

The Misfits team screwed up here. Posting a question as important as this on some blog means nothing. If it wasn't as obvious to them that there was no money involved as it was to others, they needed to clarify that with EQAL before they submitted their pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hmmm, sounds like someone should consult an attorney and hash this out legally.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thank you to the last two posters. We will try to be more communicative, but it is not always easy. My goal tonight is to unite the community around LG15: The Last. It is NOT about making money - did you see ads on LG15: The Resistance? Do you see ads on our website now? The YouTube partner program pays basically nothing. It is about growing and entertaining this community. We wanted everyone to rally around The Misfits, but now we want them to rally around LG15: The Last.

    ReplyDelete
  50. ROFL at anon 9:42... the sad irony is that it's RUN by lawyers and yet they STILL can't manage it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. ****So, on one hand, we have the Misfits crew who are supposedly naive for 'assuming' they'd get paid...

And on the other, we have EQAL, who 'assumed' they would just get entries from 'folks making a few videos on the weekend with friends and family'.

Seems like both parties are at fault to me.

See, this is what sucks about this whole situation: it's tearing the community down the center. An already dwindling community.

Why the hell do we KEEP getting into these situations anyway.

I'm REALLY starting to think that 'LG15' (or sadly EQAL) will see its last year in 2009... ****

    ReplyDelete
  52. Why does everyone think that EQAL "handed" out Max and Becki? First of all, they are people, not objects.

Second of all, I'm not sure how many of you know this, but to my recollection (Greg, you can correct me if I am wrong), Jenni actually WORKED for LG15 or had some kind of ties with LG15 and the other employees on the show. She had their contact information. Don't you guys remember her being a guest star on a MaxterBexter episode?

Jaz is correct, if there was no mention of finances in the rules, that probably means that there weren't going to be finances to begin with; I am also pretty sure that the rules even stated there was to be no pay.

Max and Becki are still around, they still have MaxterBexter. Stop acting like it's the last you'll ever see of them.

    ReplyDelete
  53. We're not saying it's the last we'll ever see of them, Liv...we're saying it's simply a shame that they seem to have been essentially 'thrown under the bus' by EQAL.

    ReplyDelete
  54. "I am also pretty sure that the rules even stated there was to be no pay."

i've looked over 'the rules' as they were, and its not really that clear, to be honest. no wonder lots of people asked that question when the contest was announced. i never thought there would be money, but i didn't look closely.

    ReplyDelete
  55. oh, other point, we haven't heard the other side of the story. i have no idea what jenni/logan really thought and why.

    ReplyDelete
  56. What surprises me most is that people who have been around here long enough to know better are not only surprised, but fueling a pointless fire. Guys, this fight is irrelevant. You've been a part of this community for years, you bitch about the same things that continue to not change. The House always wins.

Admittedly I barely have any role in this community anymore. I keep up on the blog and still talk to a few of the "old timers" but I'm not in on the daily politics anymore. That said, even I realized from the rules of the submissions there wasn't going to be financing, and anyone believing otherwise chose not to understand it.

As usual, the important part is being overlooked. My favorite statement is: "This project is about giving you, the community, a chance we never had – a platform to showcase your talent and gain experience and exposure." Yeah hi, what EXACTLY would you call Lonelygirl15? The chance the C's never had, eh? That little thing that got us all here in the first place... if y'all are still surprised that the C's are taking care of number one by taking advantage of the concepts that people are giving them freely, shame on you.

I don't mean to slight the contributions made by the fans. However, if there's a lesson to learn here it's read the fine print because you have no one to blame but yourselves when it doesn't work out the way you idealized. At the very least, don't play the victim when people (or organizations) behave exactly the same passive-aggressive and self-serving way they have for nearly three years now. And remember who your fans are... you'll probably need them again someday.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The Misfits responded on their youtube account.

    www.youtube.com/lg15themisfits

Too bad EQAL couldn't have the same professionalism.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Ok, I normally don't post comments or anything, but I just had to point out a few things and state my opinion. Sorry that it's very long :/

First of all, a lot of you assume that just because Jenni worked with them she should have known or that she didn't contact them to find out about compensation. Well you know what they say about assuming. The point is, we don't know if Jenni contacted them. Before we start saying that it could be Jenni's fault or blaming her, we should wait for her side of the story, which I'm sure she'll give in the next few days.

Second, I know that Becki and Jenni did this of their own accord, but I just think it's sad that the C's wouldn't even offer a SMALL compensation for their ex-employee's. Sure, they're EX-employee's but they worked with Becki for how long?

Third, the whole part about the C's not knowing that it would be a full time thing and only wanting it to be fun for the community... ummmm, HELLLLOOOO? They work on a show which greg told us that they work on for 80-100 hours a week. They say that they only wanted 2 vids a week, but content 5 days a week... Ok, so they film for a weekend or two, but from slight experience of trying to start my own show, the content takes some work too, so that whole argument is BS (unless the C's were going to handle the content that was not a video, which if that is the way it was going to go, then I will admit that my argument is invalid)

This whole thing is just making me and several others loose faith in the entire EQAL productions. And even if this was supposed to be just a "fun little project" for the community, I still think the winner (whoever it could be/The Lost) should get something other than a pat on the back and a T-Shirt for their time. I guess now, TSIY won't have many submissions for season 2 if this is how the C's are going to treat us...

  62. A couple of more points, then I'm really leaving this alone.

I am not slamming the misfits per se, but the fact that they are being played now as "much more professional" because of their response to this debacle is a little ridiculous to me. Yes Eqal blamed it on them. The Misfits turn around and blame it on one member of their team. -We didn't have anything to do with this decision, it was all him. At least that's how it read to me.

Re: Tiffer's response I believe they said that other content would not necessarily be videos but could be blogs, and I would assume picture content as we've gotten with little explanation during the course of the actual LG videos.

I'll put it like this, I used to work for a hospital in my area. My current boss still works at said hospital. I will often do things that benefit my previous employer, without compensation from that employer. Just because Becki, Jenni, and Max previously worked for Eqal does not entitle them or their production to any more compensation than anyone else's.

Again to sum up and reiterate from my earlier post. If money is not clearly discussed up front, you aren't getting any.

Regarding videos and content... yes its time consuming, but you should be able to sketch out your content while you're planning your videos, while they had to produce those 8 week treatments. From my understanding there were no actual time or length restraints given on this "content" aside from there had to be two videos and three other days of content.

The other side of this is maybe when they got their submissions for TSIY they couldn't do what my original thought was. That no one would meet their ultimate criteria so they would never announce a winner, they want to limit the submissions for TSIY2, or as stated earlier they want to shed us all as an audience to see if they can start fresh, with a new group that they haven't torn down yet, like the younger fans that don't understand why we get so angry or at the very least opinionated.

What Eqal needs to do is find a way, a true way in a forum that will allow us to ask our questions and get real answers. Not in video chats that are going to crash and don't house the vast numbers of people who are going to attend. If they do it in the regular chat there needs to be a better system of control so actual questions don't get lost in a sea of excitement and sometimes stupidity.

In this we also need to stop tearing each other down, and letting things like this tear us apart further.

  63. From the Misfits YouTube channel:
We regret to inform the community of LG15 that "The Misfits" will not be continuing.

It was ultimately Logan's decision to pull out of the project. In his words: "We were going to do it right or not at all."

With the lack of resources presented to us, we felt that we could not give you the best possible show. We will tell you that big names in the web video community were lining up to be on our show, and it is unfortunate that we cannot bring together this high-powered concept to reality.

Don't worry, though. We are moving ahead. We hope that, when our new projects come to fruition, you come along with us on the ride!

We'll keep you in the loop - we promise.

  64. I said this on the other thread and I'll say it here: financing was slyly implied in private communication to at least one person who publicly questioned the issue on InsideLG15.

But why anyone expects anything different from these people is beyond me. Time after time this stuff happens, and time after time a group of cloying ass-kissers fawns all over greg or miles or amanda or whoever lost the coin toss and has to stand up and deal with whatever situation has been created, while the rest of us just sigh again at the astounding disrespect and mismanagement of this incredibly loyal community.

I'll never understand why some people seem so willing to accept any scrap of attention and any lame explanation thrown out by the EQALers (I can't call them creators anymore - what they create is chaos and drama, and not the entertaining kind).

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm sick of this crap.
Anon, unless the "one person" you're talking about can come out and prove it, then keep the B.S. about EQAL and financing out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. This is disappointing, in that we won't get to see The Misfits and the community is yet again divided over an issue.
Who is to blame, EQAL or The Misfits? Well from reading both their responses and the comments on here i say both.
EQAL should have bluntly spelt it out that the winner would receive no funding, The Misfits should have confirmed with EQAL that they would receive funding. Maybe The Misfits did, we don't know the only response is that on their youtube channel and Greg states "I apologize, but we were NEVER asked by any of the entrants if we would finance any of the shows."
So unless he is lying then The Misfits never asked them.
It all comes down to being an error in communication, is it EQAL's or The Misfits error? Both are likely to blame each other, i doubt we will get the full story and no matter what we do we can't change what has happened.
So let's be happy for The Last and leave it at that, arguing over it is only going to divide the community more and lead to arguments.

  67. Once again the meta is so much more entertaining than anything they have written since Mesh ditched them.

    YES.

  69. Just read all these comments before replying.
I have to say, im with Eqal on this one. The show was aptly named "Show is yours" not "You make a show we pay you". It was all supposed to be fanmade.
However i think there was some mis-communication down the line, and its unfortunate that 'The Last' now have to try and bring the fans back together.
Im sad to see Misfits not continuing though :(

  70. LG15: The Effort Is Yours! The Money Is Ours!

Way to go EQAL, no surprise there...

Although more fanlike effort gets a shot now, it shows once again that EQAL doesn't give a crap about the community and just uses it in the most obvious way to do their work for them now.

    EQAL got lazy and greedy...

  71. From stretchandmayonaise:
Personally, I took advantage of that option and e-mailed her at LEAST 7 or 8 times asking questions about things such as what they use for lighting, file types for uploading, ****whether there would be compensation**** and a variety of other production questions, and she responded back to me, usually that same day. It was made clear that there would be no compensation (both through my personal e-mail, and as Sept said, in the post), and since I was a bit confused, all I needed to do was ASK like they wanted us to. So, if people were really confused about compensation, and were expecting to get it, then they should have saved the time in producing the show and just ASKED via the e-mail address that they said to e-mail questions to in order to find out. People obviously weren't as confused as they are acting now, because if they were, then they would have sent Amanda an email.
    --

He asked. Amanda answered. He submitted his pilot anyway. I assume other people would have asked too.

If The Misfits went forward with a plan for this show without promise of funding and then thought to ask later, it's their fault. If EQAL had some little deal on the side and then pulled it out, it's EQAL's fault. But to say that EQAL should be blamed for not paying The Misfits for their show is ridiculous. These comments (primarily the Anonymous ones) are so out there, it's becoming a joke. People are blaming EQAL based on assumptions, and you know what happens when you assume.

  72. i think we don't have enough information to judge what exactly happened. and we're not privileged to know.

what we do know is that jenni publicly asked whether she would be compensated, because it would be a huge commitment to do for free. she ended up submitting a pilot. what the response was to her question, we do not know.

we are not in a courtroom and there's not going to be any jury verdict any way on this. its just a shame it turned out this way, no matter the reasons.

  73. After my kind of negative comment in which I show my disappointment in EQAL once again, I have to admit that both parties let this happen in hope of the best outcome for them.

EQAL chose to (yes, this was definitely a conscious decision) to not address the compensation issue in public. Hoping they would drag in the high production value applicants. Which they did. Only to slap the 'rules' on them afterwards in the hope they would stick to their commitment.

While at the same time, the misfits knew they had a fairly high chance to win this contest and waited until they were announced as a winner to ask for compensation, knowing very well that would make their position in asking a lot stronger.

EQAL had every right to reply to that like they did now, however I am very disappointed with their choice. The production value, actors and the effort put in the trailer, showed that this was definitely worth the compensation and no doubt would have been more successful in keeping the community interested in LG15 while EQAL has other priorities. It just seems like a bad decision that might cost fans and decrease their audience once again.

In the end I think EQAL should have shielded themselves from this by stating the rules clearly. This hurts them more than it does the misfits when it comes to image. Before announcing the winner, they should have made everything clear. Contacting them personally before the public announcement could have prevented all of this from happening. But don't act like the misfits had a reason to believe they would get compensated for this.

  74. EQUL, do you guys need a good business manager? It may be in your best interest to hire one.
    Seriously.

  75. I meant EQAL, nor EQUL.
    Musta...musta had a vowel movement...

  76. Not that my opinion matters at this point but I never got any impression during the contest that EQAL would provide any funding.

No offense to the people involved in The Misfits. But where did they get the idea that they would get money. Even if EQAL hinted to some kind of funding, how could you plan on making this show without knowing how much you were going to get. Did they really think they could walk into EQAL's office and say "Give me this much money because we won the contest."

EQAL doesn't need to explain themselves. TheMisfits do.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yes, this is disappointing, but can't we give both parties the benefit of the doubt and assume that this was (essentially) an internal misunderstanding?

I still love you Jenni, Logan, Amanda, and Greg! =D

    ReplyDelete
  78. BK, can you please explain why Eqal Inc insisted on discussing these matters in private communications when the community loudly and clearly made it very very very clear that they wanted public answers.

It is of course Eqals choice to run its business in the way it feels fit but if it chooses to leave an information void by leaving public questions unanswered then they own the consequences. That is just the nature of public relations in the business world.

  79. Oh come on modelmotion. ANY contest in this world comes with fine print. If you don't read it, that is YOUR problem. EQAL did nothing wrong here and conducted their contest to the same standard as every contest in the world is conducted.

EQAL clearly gave a link to the TOS when they announced the contest. If The Misfits couldn't be bothered to read it, that's their problem, and this mess is completely their fault. As for them claiming that they thought they were entering an employment situation, then even moreso they should have taken the time to read what they claim would have been criteria for employment. I'm not buying it.

NOT ONE OTHER SUBMISSION THOUGHT THERE WAS MONEY INVOLVED. That alone speaks volumes. Jenni and Logan thought they were above everyone else and decided that they deserved money because they are "professionals". This B.S. has tainted the contest and if it were me, they would be BANNED from entering any other contests for EQAL.

modelmotion, EQAL can do absolutely no right in your eyes. WHY are you still anywhere around LG15 and EQAL anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Anonymous, Jenni and Logan did not think they were above everyone else. This is one of the most ignorant opinions I have ever seen.

As far as modelmotion, he has done more to help LG15/Eqal with this blog than any community member I can think of. The Cs should be all over this blog thanking modelmotion for his support.

Although, anonymous, I have taken your advice, you'll be happy to hear.
