Sophie Tilson is the Melbourne based actress who plays Sadie Brown in the hit web series OzGirl. In addition, to playing the lead role, she also produces and helped create the show. Nicholas Carlton originally envisioned OzGirl as a video blog about a hairdresser, and approached Sophie about working on the project. The two of them went for a walk around the city and quickly retooled the series to its current form. Sophie and Nick actually attended the same high school in Melbourne, although she was a year ahead of him and Nick is fairly confident she did not know he existed. They eventually met when Sophie auditioned for a role in Nick’s short film Rock Shop, a role which eventually went to fellow OzGirl Shanrah Wakefield.
Sophie Tilson is currently a student at the Victorian College of the Arts working towards a B.A. in Media and Communications. She also has taken several courses at The Australian Film & Television Academy. In addition to acting, Sophie Tilson enjoys singing and, at least according to Nick, “…often breaks into song and dance in the middle of the street.”
Much of OzGirl’s success can be attributed to the warmth and charm that Sophie brings to the character of Sadie. Such an innocent an naïve character could easily come across as hooky, yet Sophie infuses Sadie with such genuine emotion that the audience cannot help but fall in love with her.
