Announcing the Launch of the Independent Web Series Creators of Canada!

Hey everyone!

We wanted to make sure you all knew about this, because we see Web Series Today and the community around it as an inspiration for us and web series creators everywhere. Although the focus of our new organization is Canadian, we think that no matter where you live you'll get a lot out of it.

You can check out our website here; http://iwcc-ciwc.org/.

We believe in supporting web series that are independent, creator-driven and audience focused, a spirit that we share with Web Series Today. If you'd like to know more, we'd be happy to answer your questions, or join us online on Tuesday at 8:00 PM EST to watch the Toronto launch event live!

From the release:

"Canadian web series creators announce the formation of the Independent Web Series Creators of Canada (IWCC), a non-profit professional association that represents independent, creator driven and audience focused web series and their creators across Canada and internationally

To celebrate this momentous occasion, the IWCC is hosting a launch party and live-stream on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. The Toronto launch event is at the Monarch Tavern, staring at 8:00 PM EST. Information about the live-stream will be available on the IWCC website."

  1. Until their board of directors represents every region of Canada and not just Toronto, it is not going to be any better than the IAWTV.

  2. Hi Jimmy,

My name is Ash Catherwood, an interim board member on the IWCC.
I understand completely your concern about regional representation. We fully intend on having provinces represented by this organization, hopefully in the not too distant future!

This has been a labour of passion from all involved to date. Expenses and labour have all been generously donated. The only reason that we have not found regional reps is that we are still in the process of meeting creators across the country!

This wonderful organization grew out of the Toronto Webseries community. If you aren't familiar with this group, it is a tremendously supportive and encouraging group of creators dedicated to furthering their craft, community, and the perception of the web series medium to the world.
While the Toronto Webseries community is based in Toronto, it has been inclusive and supportive of members the world over.

We on the IWCC hope to carry that energy and camaraderie forward, and we just hope that the public will have a bit of patience as we grow into the truly national organization we intend to be.

It is very much our hope that creators from across the country will put their names forward as regional representative candidates. If you have any questions, or know of people interested in getting involved as regional reps or just in general, don't hesitate to get in touch.

    Contact me personally, [email protected]

Or the IWCC in general. [email protected].

Can't wait to hear from you!

    -Ash Catherwood

  3. I totally agree, Jimmy!

We're building. It is our hope that web series creators from all over Canada not only join, but be a part of deciding the future of the IWCC. Having people from across the country on the board is a big goal of ours. We're not there yet, but we're getting there!

    Thanks for you thoughts!

  4. Interesting move...

The World Wide Web is a platform that we will use to smash the regional paradigm in favor of a global one, where the people of the World are empowered to more directly influence and control their future.

That said, we still have to contend with nations states, each of which brings its own problems and issues to the table.

In the end, however, we are all stuck on this one planet, at least for now, and Web series are a great way of exploring global communities of interested parties.

  5. Unless the regions are represented EQUALLY, this is just the LA bubble all over again in another city. Count me out.
