WHAT TIME IS IT?...Coverage of Glenn on BreeFM

Glenn, live on BreeFM @11pm EST, Wednesday.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This article was being written live during the show. As such it may contain significant factual errors. Over time it is hoped that these will be corrected.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Glenn used his "radio guy voice" to start out the show. When he did the brother voice over on the Tachyon/Aly Zarin video he found he had to enunciate every word. He compared the effect to Will Arnett.

Viral videos: Glenn was considering that area before OpAphid. He had considered shooting a single camera sit-com. Before YouTube he was thinking of using bit torrent but you would still have to get a buzz going. When YouTube came along he was paying attention to videos like "10 Things I hate About Commandments". They cut it like it was a teen movie.

Once the new Knight Rider airs (see the short promo with the Will Arnett voice) lets take the footage and overdub some of the lines from WillArnett/Arrested Development . Think of the mashup potential!!!!!!!

Glenn was inspired by "Working Girl". The majority of movies Glennlikedhad a 20 year old guy with an overbearing girlfriend. He would find a new girl and then pull off something great. Glenns parents got divorced when he was 10 so he looked up to TV shows for role models. He was bummed when
John Ritter (Threes Company) passed away. Its amazing what an impact a TV show can have.

There was a scene in "Working Girl" where someone would get involved in radio. You see 2 thoughts and link them together in your brain just like in the movie. Occasionally something will click and you figure out how to put a different spin on something or combine 2 things to make something new.

Take Glenn up on this"Mashup Video Challenge" and give him a shout out in the videos.

----
Big thank you to the Red Army for helping promote "
When A Girl Gets On Your Nerves". It is now at 100,000 views. The comments got it going but it rolls from there. Once it gets on the charts it has a snowball effect because Sara gives an amazing thumb nail.

In terms of titles they are intended to make sense from the perspective of Rachel. Everything that included the "2 girls" had a double meaning so the word "dwelling" stayed true to the spirit of the character.

People were talking about tactics. People (including LG15) are very aware that the YouTube charts are important. Look at "Remember Me"......it did not cross the threshold and did not do as well. Look at the videos on the "other character" accounts for Lonelygirl15.

With a plan (see below) we could make RedEarth88 the most popular series on the Internet. We have amazing videos that have not had a ton of exposure.
----
Glenn has a bonus planned for the Red Army. Its a token of his appreciation for all your hard work.

If you want to get involved in the Red Army send an e-mail to [email protected]
----
There is a new video coming tomorrow. It is at the thumb nail stage. There are a couple more videos in this story arc. The story is "going", people just do not realise it yet.
----
NEWSFLASH: Glenn has interrupted: "Bette Midler - Wind Beneath My Wings"....with a major
रंतthat the song is female passive aggressive "bs".
----
People suggested Glenn should volunteer for stuff or get involved in politics. He thinks its great but he makes the argument that you can do so much to influence society through contributions to pop culture that has an impact on people. Think about our preconceived notions. They are shaped by the things around us.

Look back at the 60s and 70s. Good Times and Jeffersons were ground breaking. They had "humanising" content. Norman Lear was behind shows that broke down racial barriers. "My So Called Life" was another ground breaking show. A year and a half later Glenn had a close friend who "came out". TV shows can increase tolerance.

Glenn loves that we enjoy his work। With the Lonelygirl15 video "Drinking Problems" he felt like he was beginning to get into something. Glenn's assistant had once mention the phrase that her parents had "violently ignored her" and that always stuck with him.

If vlogs you are talking about the characters thought process. In
Bree's Gone, Hiding In the Bathroom, and Drinking Problems he wrote a lot. The initial drafts were twice as long. He was shooting How dumb am I and he was talking to Jessica she said she was stoked with the idea of scripts whereshe could tackle massive dialogue. On LG15 Miles wanted to tone it down a little. You don't want teenagers to talk like 30 something. Today people have very diverse vocabularies. Glenn tried to look at it as people talking with diverse vocabularies. You have educated and articulated people and you also have the swearing language at times. When you listen to love line for a year and you get to hear a slice of reality. You pick up on the speech patterns and that's a core component of how he writes dialogue. They don't know the answers but they are looking for the answers. Maybe they are getting a glimpse of himself. The vlog is a journey.

Glenn loved the great comments on the last video. The last two videos were originally going to be one video. He felt that because Sara pulled it off so well it was deserving of two videos. Miles wanted things less than a page. Jessica looked frightened while Miles and Glenn would fight over the scripts. Glenn like people to make strong argument and does not mind creative battles because it makes the points stronger.

You have to consider the pacing of the video and how that affects the length of the video. There are times when you cant just cut out lines. Curious George had incredibly nice things to say about the last video. Glenn printed out the article so that he can read it on days when he is bummed. He thanked Anchor Cove for making him a better writer. Glenn read the actual Curious George post from Anchor cove.

The last video did have some background relevant stuff in addition to the "Zoey rant".. He loves the Zoey fan fiction and thanked Zoey for all her help with LGPedia. He was amused by the comments that say they want to hear Zoey's side of things. Rachel is a bit judgemental. Maybe we will delve into why Rachel is the way she is.
----
Puzzles: they will be a component of the non Rachel/Tachyon parts of RedEarth88.
----
Glenn loved Arrested Development. It was cancelled after 3 seasons.
----

The RedEarth88 Plan
Glenn has been working on RedEarth88 with Jeromy for 10 months. There is at least one night a week when he does not sleep. He works on RedEarth88 24/7. He never made one cent from Lonelygirl15. The ARG stuff was fun but it took up a lot of his life. He has not had time to look after the business side of RedEarth88.

The numbers help set the stage if it gets consistent numbers. Currently it is getting better numbers than Lonelygirl15, Prom Queen or Quarterlife. RedEarth88 has a "story" to tell from a business perspective.

Multiple accounts make it difficult for new viewers to pick up on the series. If we re-post videos on the RedEarth88 series account we can create a self contained narrative story. If there are 2 or 3 videos per week we have 6 weeks of constant chart presence and it introduces people to the idea that this is a series. The playlists will still exist on the RedEarth88 account, so if someone wants to watch the entire series they can "catch up". This will not affect new videos on the character accounts. If we can get some of the great past videos in front of 100,000 people think about the impact. It would help bring up the subscriber numbers as people realize this is a great series.

The Brother element will be understood in a different way. We want people who will dig and do research. Those who don't will see a mysterious individual show up for the shooting. The idea will build up that someone helped them.

Star Trek did great in syndication because a new audience "discovered it". That is what we want to accomplish with the RedEarth88 account.

Glenn talked about how important comments are to promoting the series. Comments should be a conversation that helps expand the community. Glenn talked about the Perky post "
Be Part Of Something " that talked about the "comments community" and the wonderful things that happen when the community members interact while talking about a video. Comments ensure that a series survives and Glenn asked Perky and everyone else who frequent "comments" (past, present and future) to join the Red Army and help make RedEarth88 all it can be. We play by the YouTube rules. Will we survive haters?.......yes! We want a mainstream audience. The more people that become involved the better it is. You need the early adopters, but then you need to build out from that core group of fans.

If you are a band and you have sold 10,000 records you can get a deal. If you have sold 100,000 records you can get a great deal. If you have sold 250,000 records consistently you can get an amazing deal. Investors will give you much better terms if you have an established track record and that is the goal for RedEarth88

Glenn says that Gregg (Goodfried) owes him an e-mail, but that he really misses working with both Gregg and Amanda.

  5. Anon,

Thanks for the spelling feedback. However it is clearly stated at the beginning of the article that it is being transcribed live so you should expect mistakes. It also clearly states that the errors will be corrected over time.

But, yea, thanks for the feedback.

  6. hehe, let me guess ... mm used some weird (aka Apple) tool to spell check / edit the article, pasted it back in and boom! big font. ;)

  7. Actually the way blogger works has been changing on a mac and I was just experimenting.

They seem to have messed up the spell check feature and that was part of the slow down last night.

Was the font too big? Fonts tend to show up different on different platforms/browsers as you know.
