The 2012 Aurora shootings occurred in the early morning of July 20, 2012. At last report, 10 people were killed at the scene of the crime, at least 4 have died in nearby hospitals and 50 injured in a shooting in theaters 8 and 9 in the Century 16 Movie Theater, during the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises. 24-year-old local resident James Holmes was identified to be the shooter. He was dressed in all black and released gas into the theatre before opening fire with 3 guns. Holmes was discovered later, wearing a gas mask, hiding behind a car in a car-park, whereupon he told authorities that he also had explosives hidden in his house. At last report, there was no motive, although officials do believe he was influenced by the character Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.
